STEVE ETTLINGER SCULPTURE

Steve Ettlinger has been making large wooden sculptues since approximately 2013. Most have been made on Deer Isle, an island on the Maine coast, where he is inspired not only by his love of modern, abstract sculpture (obviously, and especially that of Constantin Brancusi) but also by the abundance of spruce logs and neighbors with chainsaws. He also works in a woodworking shop in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, NY.

The spruce pieces are left a bit rough while the cedar logs are sanded to a glassy smooth finish in most places and are treated with either a silky, hand-rubbed tung oil finish for indoor display or a variety of outdoor-ready finishes such as tung oil or spar varnish. Most have natural bases in that a bottom section is left with its "loggishness" intact.

The large pieces are steadied by a custom-made steel base or perched on a steel stake in the ground. Prices for sculptures, bases, and delivery are certainly available upon request.

More information may be found elsewhere on this site or by contacting Steve Ettlinger via email, phone, or text, at steve@steveettlinger.com or 917-921-8575.  Follow progress on Instagram, @steveslogs, if you are so inclined.
